Regional Conference focused on Central & Eastern Europe

The Institute for the Regions of Europe (IRE) is a scientific institution. One area of central importance is the creation of networks between the regions, cities and municipalities; and other areas of public activity. Alongside the Republic of Austria, the members and backers of IRE also include other European regions, cities and towns; as well as influential businesses. The IRE believes one task of particular importance is foster economic relations between the regions and municipalities within Europe, to distribute information and to strengthen the connections to the European Union.

The IRE – Institute for the Regions of Europe - has planned several panel discussions at the Property Talks on the issues of:

  • New European subsidies and funding models for regions, cities and towns
  • Regional development as a means of combating the economic crisis
  • The future of European traffic and transport infrastructure – Standstill or progress?
  • Renewable energy sources as an answer to climate change – regional and local strategie

International Symposium: Real Estate Development in CEE-Cities – Status quo and future challenges

intsymposiumThe international financial and economic crisis has slowed down the dynamic growth seen in the economies of Central and Eastern European states quite significantly. The effects on spending power and investment have been very negative in certain sectors. What effects has this crisis had, particularly on the real estate sector in the CEE-Cities, and what developments, problems and opportunities are being predicted for the future? Which partnerships can be fostered between property investors, towns and cities under these current circumstances to facilitate intelligent, long-term city planning and profitable real estate development?

The City of Vienna is hosting a symposium and inviting a whole host of top-ranking representatives of CEE municipalities and internationally renowned experts to discuss the burning issues in economic, real estate and municipal development.

These discussions are to take place on the 18th May 2010 from 1 pm - 5 pm at the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Centre, hall – Strauss 3.

acrossTHE Shopping Centre OF THE FUTURE – Future prospects for shopping centres
Consumer experience and social functionality versus needs-based local provision. Which tasks will the shopping centres of the future be expected to fulfil? An interdisciplinary ACROSS panel features well-known researchers of public opinion and market trends, project developers and planners in conversation regarding the future of shopping centres. The discussions take place on the 19th May 2010 from 10 am - 1 pm at 10 am at the Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Centre, hall – Strauss 3.

ACROSS Award 2010
ACROSS was conceived of to identify the most innovative shopping centre in Central and Eastern Europe and will be awarding the prize for the most innovative CEE/SEE (including Austria) shopping centre projectof 2009. The winner is to be featured in detail in an edition of ACROSS – New Europe’s Shopping Centres. The award ceremony takes place during the REAL VIENNA 2010 in Vienna. Speeches, talks, panel discussions and forums will all be spotlighting the latest international trends and developments, and providing plenty of opportunities make contacts and socialise. Several national and international participants have already registered, particularly from the CEE regions.
